windows 7 released sort of....

We had trouble getting Windows 7 running due to a problem with the display driver, and even now it is running slow. We are working on it with Vmware. We felt like it was important to get it out. So slow is better than nothing at all.

The longer story is... we use Vmware ESXI to power our site and the display driver + Windows 7 does not make for a happy combination.

Some of the links we used to work through our problems were

We first had to figure out the problem itself and how to get past it and this link helped with that (http://communities.vmware.com/message/1244579. We ended up trying to use the SVGA driver that comes with Windows 7 as a work around for the Vmware guest driver not working.

Then the network driver (E100) locking at the start screen was the next problem: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/223674

This link http://communities.vmware.com/message/1247683 with some great work from someone named TekMason was what finally finshed the job. And for this one we had to tell Vmware to set the Guest OS settings to Windows XP Professional.

It has been a much longer day than we intended.
