Why is the screen refreshing so slowly?

The VNC protocol has some inherent performance issues and does 'lag' some across the Internet as it transmits screen refreshes. It does, however, work well for this service as it works across multiple platforms and operating systems. Hopefully you will find the system still very usable and helpful in testing via systems and browsers you do not have direct access to in spite of the speed of the screen refreshes.

If the screen is slow enough to make the service unusable, there are a few things you can try:

If you are using the built in, default java based vnc viewer, try using a desktop vnc viewer. The desktop vnc clients tend to provide better performance than the java based client. See http://crossbrowsertesting.com/faq/desktop-vnc for more details.

We have had users report that there speed increased when they moved from a WiFi based connection to a hardwired ethernet connection. The system is very sensitive to latency in the network - this can help.

Anti virus apps or hard disk indexing programs running at the same time can reduce the processing cycles being handed to the viewer by your machine. Disable these when accessing the service.
