I have created a web page with a black background and yellow text. When I see screenshots or live testing of this in Safari and Internet Explorer 7, it looks great. When I look at it in other browsers, the text looks bad . The font is Tahoma.
Are the screenshots and live testing in CrossBrowserTesting true to what the text will look like on a computer? If so, why would the text look better in Safari Internet Explorer 7 than most other common browsers?

Hey Monty... I know we talked on email too but I wanted others to see what we had talked about.
The reason why screenshots look different is because of cleartype and probably something similar for Safari. On XP cleartype is off at the OS level by default. But IE7 will ignore the OS level setting and use cleartype anyway. So anytime you see a screenshot with IE7 you will get cleartype fonts. Which look great on a LCD monitor but maybe not so great in other situations.
If you get way down and look at the pixels on cleartype font you will see colors as an artifact of how subpixel rendering.
When you were looking at the screenshots that looked bad what was the browser/OS combination?
